Bangladesh Seeks 600mmcfd LNG Capacity Boost Within Two Years

The government of Bangladesh plans to boost the country's LNG import capacity by 600 million cubic feet per day within the next two years, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman announced in parliament.

A new floating terminal is expected to start supplying regasified LNG by December 2028, increasing the country's LNG import capacity by 600mmcfd, the prime minister said.

The government is also conducting feasibility studies on setting up one or two additional floating LNG terminals near Payra or Mongla ports or along the southwestern coast.

To reduce dependence on imported fuel, the government aims to increase domestic gas production through a programme that includes drilling and carrying out workovers on 150 wells, adding 140mmcfd of gas to the national grid upon completion.
