Bangladesh Seeks Diesel From India Amid Worsening Power Crisis

Bangladesh is facing a severe power crisis due to disruptions at the Moheshkhali LNG terminals, which have cut gas supplies to power plants. As a result, the country has turned to alternative diesel supplies, including from India and China.

The gas shortage has resulted in a nationwide electricity shortfall and load shedding, prompting authorities to impose an 8 pm shutdown for shopping malls, shops, and other commercial establishments.

In August, Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi met with Bangladesh's Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood to discuss cooperation in the power and energy sectors. They also discussed strengthening India-Bangladesh cooperation in these areas.
