Bangladesh Seeks Gas Imports From Myanmar Through Pipeline or LNG
Bangladesh is seeking to import natural gas from neighboring Myanmar to alleviate its growing energy crisis. In talks on energy cooperation in Dhaka, Bangladesh proposed importing gas through a pipeline, while Myanmar suggested exporting liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The two sides agreed to hold a ministerial-level meeting soon to assess the feasibility of both options.
According to Energy Secretary Muhammad Saiful Islam, Bangladesh has significant demand for natural gas and is interested in sourcing fuel from Myanmar through a pipeline. However, despite being a major natural gas exporter, Myanmar currently exports most of its gas to Thailand and China.
