Bangladesh Seeks LNG from Malaysia Amid Gas Shortage

Malaysia's Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that Bangladesh has requested assistance from Malaysia to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) due to a current gas shortage. The request was made by Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during a telephone conversation with Anwar yesterday.

Anwar stated that the matter was discussed as part of efforts to strengthen Malaysia-Bangladesh ties, particularly in the energy and investment sectors for mutual benefit.

The shortage has been exacerbated by an accident at an industrial facility, according to international media reports. Bangladesh's gas supply challenges have arisen following the West Asia conflict.
