Bangladesh Seeks LNG Supply from Malaysia Amid Gas Shortage

Malaysia has been approached by Bangladesh for assistance in supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) due to the country's current gas supply challenges. According to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the matter was discussed during a telephone conversation with Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Anwar stated that both leaders discussed strengthening Malaysia-Bangladesh ties in areas such as energy and investment for mutual benefit. They also touched on economic cooperation, including potential investments involving Axiata and strategic cooperation with MMC Port to create more opportunities for both countries.

Malaysia is committed to maintaining its long-standing friendship with Bangladesh based on mutual respect, pragmatic cooperation, and a commitment to bringing benefits to the people of both countries. The gas shortage in Bangladesh has been exacerbated by an accident at an industrial facility following the West Asia conflict.
