Bangladesh Seeks Myanmar Gas Pipeline Amid Energy Demand
Bangladesh has proposed importing natural gas from Myanmar through a pipeline, driven by its 'Neighbourhood First' policy to expand energy cooperation.
The proposal was discussed during a meeting between State Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud and Myanmar Ambassador U Kyaw Soe Moe at the Secretariat on Sunday. The State Minister noted that Bangladesh has a growing demand for natural gas and is interested in importing gas from Myanmar through a pipeline.
The two sides revisited the long-standing proposal to construct a gas pipeline from Myanmar to Chattogram, Bangladesh. Iqbal Hasan Mahmud expressed his interest in holding a ministerial-level meeting between the two countries to discuss the matter in detail.
