Bangladesh Seeks Myanmar Gas Pipeline to Ease Energy Shortages

Myanmar and Bangladesh have discussed building a cross-border gas pipeline to address energy shortages in the latter country. The proposal was made by Bangladesh Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood during a meeting with Myanmar Ambassador U Kyaw Soe Moe.

Mahmood emphasized that direct pipeline imports from Myanmar offer a practical solution to secure stable energy supplies. He highlighted that declining domestic natural gas production has left Bangladesh reliant on expensive imported liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The ambassador welcomed the proposal and suggested exploring short-term LNG supplies to complement potential pipeline development.
