Bangladesh Seeks Petronas LNG Aid Amidst Gas Shortage

Bangladesh has requested assistance from Malaysia to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) due to its current gas shortage. The request was conveyed by Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during a phone conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar stated that the two leaders discussed various matters related to strengthening Malaysia-Bangladesh ties, particularly in the energy and investment sectors for mutual benefit.

The gas shortage in Bangladesh has been exacerbated by an accident at an industrial facility following the West Asia conflict. Petronas, a Malaysian oil and gas company, may collaborate with Bangladesh to supply LNG.
