Bangladeshi Gas Supplies Rebound with Partial Restart of LNG Terminal
Bangladesh's gas supplies improved on August 6th after a floating liquefied natural gas terminal, operated by Excelerate Energy, partially resumed operations. The facility was shut down for over two weeks following a fire that damaged electrical cable systems linked to its boiler operations.
The partial restart of one regasification unit added around 115 million cubic feet of gas per day to the national grid, easing shortages that disrupted power generation, industrial production, and household supplies. Petrobangla officials stated that this marked the first phase of restoring the terminal's full capacity.
The terminal typically regasifies 500-550 million cubic feet of LNG per day. Bangladesh relies on imported LNG to offset declining domestic gas production and meet rising energy demand, with a daily consumption of approximately 3,800-4,000 million cubic feet.
