Basrah Crude Grades Soar as Global Benchmarks Lag
Iraq's Basrah crude export grades rose significantly on Thursday, outperforming global benchmarks. The prices of both Basrah Heavy and Basrah Medium increased by over $12 a barrel each.
Basrah Heavy settled at $77.43 a barrel, up 19.05% from the previous day, while Basrah Medium rose to $80.73 a barrel, gaining 18.13%. These gains far surpassed the modest increases in global benchmarks, with Brent crude climbing just 0.3% to $91.87 a barrel and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) falling 2 cents to $85.81.
In comparison, Arab markets saw more moderate price movements, with Saudi Arab Light rising by 35 cents, or 0.41%, to $85.44 a barrel. Kuwait Export Blend increased by $2.42, or 2.92%, to $85.23 a barrel, while Murban crude in the UAE gained $1.65, or 1.69%, to reach $99.40 a barrel.
