BC Government Admits $1.46B Error in Gas Revenue Forecasts
The British Columbia government has confirmed errors in its gas revenue forecasts amounting to $1.46B, affecting the province's deficit and natural gas prices.
The errors were discovered by staff at the Energy Ministry, who found that a formula was incorrectly applied across a spreadsheet when converting U.S.-Canadian dollar conversions.
Senior staff said the mistakes had been independently verified and corrections would be included in the province’s quarterly fiscal report expected later this month.
The errors resulted in an overstatement of revenue, with correcting them resulting in a price decrease of 44 cents per gigajoule of natural gas in B.C.’s forecasting for 2026-2027.
