Beetaloo Basin Gas Plant Begins Commissioning in Australia
The Beetaloo Basin in Australia's Northern Territory is one step closer to commercial gas production after commissioning began at its first natural gas plant. The Sturt Plateau Compression Facility, owned by SPCF Trust and operated by Tamboran Resources, has a nameplate capacity of 48.5 MMcf/d. Of this capacity, 38.8 MMcf/d is contracted under a take-or-pay agreement with the Northern Territory government for up to 15 years.
The facility was completed on schedule and within its gross budget of $99 million, according to Formentera Partners. The company, which entered the Beetaloo basin in 2022, now holds 1.9 million net acres in the area and claims the basin has multi-Tcf natural gas potential.
Appraisal drilling indicates that the Beetaloo Basin could eventually support supplies beyond the Northern Territory, including markets on Australia's East Coast and LNG export facilities. The development of the Beetaloo Basin is a significant step towards establishing a reliable long-term supply source for the region.
