Bessent's Economic War on Iran Ignites Bitcoin Rally
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced plans to detail an economic sanctions package against Iran at a Washington news conference on Monday. The move is part of what he calls an 'economic D-Day' and aims to sever every lifeline sustaining Tehran.
The package will target third countries with penalties for buying Iranian oil or carrying its cargo, according to Bessent. He described the plan as the single greatest financial offensive ever marshaled against an adversary.
BTC traded near $77,200 after a 20% gain over the past week, its strongest stretch in three years. Analysts attribute this rally to US bond market buybacks by the Treasury Department, not the war.
Mark Connors, chief investment officer at Risk Dimensions, said the move removes one of the largest macro pressures weighing on crypto and could push BTC toward $180,000. However, he also warned that failure of the Clarity Act to advance in Congress by September 15 is a near-term risk marker for Bitcoin.
