BHP Copper Surge Sends Shares to Record High
BHP Group Ltd (LSE:BHP, ASX:BHP) shares reached an all-time intraday high of $67.72 on Monday, increasing by 3.9% from Friday's closing price of $65.16.
The surge in BHP's stock price is largely due to the rise in copper prices, which jumped 1.8% to US$6.68 per pound in US trading on Friday.
Copper has become a major earnings contributor for BHP, surpassing iron ore for the first time in FY26 results. The company reported a 9% increase in net profit to US$9.83 billion, with copper generating around US$18 billion of underlying EBITDA.
BHP expects copper demand to grow significantly over the coming decades as data centres, renewable energy infrastructure, and electricity grids require increasing volumes of the metal.
