BHP Profit Soars 30% on Copper Price Boom
BHP's financial results for the 2026 financial year showed significant growth, with underlying attributable profit rising 30% to $13 billion.
The increase was driven by higher copper prices, stronger output, and lower unit costs, which lifted earnings despite a $2.3 billion non-cash impairment linked to the Jansen potash project in Canada.
Copper production remained steady at about 2 million tons for the second consecutive year, while Western Australia Iron Ore reported record production and shipments.
The company's copper business generated $18 billion of EBITDA at a 70% margin, making it the largest contributor to earnings. BHP also maintained its position as one of the lowest-cost major iron ore miners.
