Bitcoin Stands Firm Amid Middle East Tensions
Geopolitical tensions have escalated between the U.S. and Iran, causing oil prices to jump nearly 2% and stocks to drop, but Bitcoin remained surprisingly stable. During Asian hours, BTC traded around $78,000 after a U.S. attack on an Iranian island in the Strait of Hormuz. The region is crucial for global energy markets, making military activity significant. WTI crude futures increased by over 2% to $85 per barrel and Brent climbed nearly 1.9% above $92.
Nasdaq futures fell around 0.5%, while losses were seen across Asian equity markets, with gold falling roughly 0.8%. However, Bitcoin stood out as a stable asset in turbulent times. BTC gained approximately 23% during August, making it one of the strongest-performing major assets.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical oil transportation route, and any disruptions can impact global energy markets. The U.S.-Iran escalation added uncertainty to an already volatile market. Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's comments also shifted expectations surrounding U.S. interest rates, making the situation even more complex. BTC continued trading around the clock with minimal reaction to the geopolitical events.
