Black Sea Attacks Threaten Global Food Security

Russian grain exports face significant disruption due to Ukrainian drone attacks on ships and ports in the Black Sea. The Union of Grain Exporters and Producers warned that if the attacks continue, global food security will be severely threatened.

The group estimates that a shortfall in Russian wheat supply could reach 30-35 million metric tons this season, accounting for around 15% of total global wheat trade. This would make it impossible to cover the shortage by increasing exports from alternative countries.

The attacks on dry cargo vessels and port infrastructure have already caused disruptions to shipping in the Black Sea, posing a direct threat to global food security.
