Black Sea Blockade Boosts Grain Prices for Non-Russian Ukraine Exporters
Global grain prices have been boosted by the Black Sea port blockade, benefiting farmers in countries like Poland. According to Mirosław Marciniak, an independent grain market analyst at InfoGrain, milling wheat delivered to Polish ports has risen by around PLN 100-120/t.
The price of milling wheat in Poland was previously priced at PLN 880-900/t, but is now selling for around PLN 1,000/t. A similar trend is visible on the European futures market, where MATIF wheat has risen from €205-210/t to around €240/t for the December contract.
While farmers in other countries are benefiting from the blockade, Ukraine's agricultural sector is facing significant challenges. The country needs to ship around 4-5 million tons of agricultural products per month, but alternative routes under current conditions could handle only around 1.5 million tons per month.
