The global wheat market has seen a significant surge in prices due to the blockade of Black Sea ports by Russia and Ukraine. The halt of wheat exports from Ukraine since July 22 and from Russia since August 12, caused by attacks on port infrastructure and civilian vessels, led to a moderate increase in wheat futures prices over the past week.

According to Finway, September futures for soft red winter (SRW) wheat in Chicago rose by 5.4% to reach $248 per ton. Hard red winter (HRW) wheat in Kansas City increased by 6.3% to $278.8 per ton, while spring hard red (HRS) wheat in Minneapolis rose by 0.7% to $248 per ton.

The European market also saw an increase in soft wheat prices, rising by 3.4% to €225.25 per ton, equivalent to $261 per ton. Analysts predict that the blockade of grain exports will continue to pressure global prices, keeping prices in Ukraine from further decline.
