Black Sea Disruptions Fuel Wheat Futures Surge

Wheat futures surged on Wednesday, providing a boost to cash bids across the Prairies as farmers began bringing their crops to market.

The rally was led by gains in both Chicago and Minneapolis spring wheat futures, with Jonathan Meyer, Senior Trader at JGL Commodities, noting that Chicago went limit up and spring wheat futures rose 30 cents.

Cash bids strengthened as a result, with some producers seeing bids between $8.50 and $9 per bushel for spring wheat.

The increase comes at a key time, as harvest activity expands beyond lentils into cereals in many areas.
