Black Sea Export Disruptions Send Wheat Prices Soaring

Wheat prices have reached their highest level in three years due to disruptions in grain exports through the Black Sea. According to Bloomberg, Chicago wheat futures have climbed to $7.55 a bushel, which is approximately 30% above the low recorded in late June.

The price increase of around 18% over the past month is largely attributed to strikes on ports, terminals, and vessels that have affected Ukraine and Russia's export routes. These two countries are among the world's largest wheat traders.

Rabobank analyst Andree Dejene notes that the issue isn't a shortage of grain but rather the ability to transport it to buyers. Although alternative routes exist, they cannot fully replace the capacity of Odesa and Novorossiysk ports.
