Black Sea Port Attacks Disrupt Global Grain Shipments
The Black Sea port attacks have disrupted global grain shipments, threatening food security worldwide.
The Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Minister Taras Vysotskyi announced that shipowners had temporarily suspended sending vessels to load agricultural products at Black Sea ports as of July 22 due to security risks. This decision affects over 90% of Ukraine's agricultural exports, which comprise roughly 60% of the country's total trade.
The attacks have also targeted Russia's major grain export terminals, including Taman port, prompting restrictions on ship movements in the Sea of Azov and limiting grain intake by land transport. This has slowed operations at the vital hub and reduced loading speeds.
The non-profit Rusgrain Union warned that persistent attacks on commercial vessels and port infrastructure threaten to close Black Sea export corridors entirely if security conditions fail to improve.
