Bond Yields Surge, Markets on Edge as Traders Seek Clarity
Bond yields are rising across the globe, putting markets on edge as traders and investors struggle to predict what's next. The 10-year Treasury yield hit a high of 4.81% in early trading, its highest since October 2023. This surge is being echoed in other major economies, with German and French 10-year yields reaching their highest levels since 2011 and 2008 respectively.
Meanwhile, the Bank of Japan's policymaker Takata emphasized the need to consider a broad range of options on monetary policy response. In contrast, European Central Bank policymaker Makhlouf said that the upcoming policy decision will not surprise anyone.
Financial markets are feeling the pressure, with gold and WTI crude oil prices experiencing losses. The S&P 500 futures are down 0.1%, while European indices are also lower.
