Bonnyville Residents Raise Concerns Over Massive Carbon Capture Project

A town hall meeting in Bonnyville drew about 75 people to discuss concerns over the proposed Pathways Project, a massive carbon capture, utilization and storage megaproject.

The project would capture CO2 emissions from oil sands facilities across northern Alberta and store them deep underground near Cold Lake, Bonnyville, and St. Paul.

Nigel Robinson, an outreach coordinator with Keepers of the Water, presented key points from a community engagement report, including risks and impacts associated with the project.

Mark Hunt, a Glendon area resident with 20 years of experience managing high-risk pipelines in the oil and gas industry, expressed concerns over insufficient safety information available to manage these types of pipelines.
