BP and Shell Surge as Crude Oil Prices Rally Amid US-Iran Tensions
UK energy stocks are leading gains on the FTSE 100 today as crude oil and natural gas prices rebound. BP's stock price has climbed to 534p, up 18.5% from its July low and 63% above its lowest level last year.
Shell shares have also risen to 3,345p, extending their recovery to 16% above their year-to-date low. The strong performance of these companies is largely due to the rising prices of crude oil, with Brent jumping to $89.8 and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) rising to $84.2.
The rebound in crude oil prices may continue in the foreseeable future after recent statements from the US and Iran. Trump has indicated that he is 'low-keying' his approach to Iran and focusing on economic pressure, which could limit the likelihood of a renewed conflict.
