BP Boosts Atlantis Oil Production with Major Expansion
BP has put into production its Atlantis Major Facility Expansion project in the US Gulf of Mexico. The expansion adds two new subsea water injection wells to the field, increasing pressure and unlocking additional oil reserves. According to BP, this will add approximately 10,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) of gross peak annualized average production, with around 5,000 boe/d net to the company.
The Atlantis project was discovered in 1998 and is operated by BP with a 56% working interest. The field's co-owner is Woodside Energy, which holds the remaining 44% working interest. The expansion was delivered ahead of schedule and under budget, and it extends the life of a significant asset for BP.
BP is expanding its operations in the US Gulf of Mexico with multiple projects. In addition to the Atlantis Major Facility Expansion project, the company has recently sanctioned two new production platforms, Kaskida and Tiber, which are expected to add 160,000 barrels per day of new oil production capacity by the end of 2030.
