BP Expands Atlantis Facility in US Gulf of America with New Wells
BP has initiated its Atlantis Major Facility Expansion project in the US Gulf of America. The expansion involves adding two new subsea water injection wells to increase pressure on targeted reservoirs, unlocking additional oil and extending the life of the facility.
The Atlantis facility, located approximately 150 miles south of New Orleans, has been in production for nearly 20 years. With this expansion, BP aims to add around 10,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) of gross peak annualized average production, with about 5,000 boe/d net to the company.
According to Andy Krieger, senior vice president for the Gulf of America and Canada, 'Atlantis has been one of the anchors of our Gulf business for nearly two decades, and this expansion proves there is still more value to be generated.' The project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.
