bp Expands Atlantis Offshore Oil Field in US Gulf
bp has announced an expansion project for its Atlantis offshore oil field in the US Gulf. The field, located approximately 150 miles south of New Orleans, has been in production since nearly two decades ago.
The expansion adds two new subsea water injection wells to increase pressure on targeted reservoirs and unlock additional barrels. This will extend the producing life of one of bp's flagship assets in the region.
According to Andy Krieger, senior vice president for the Gulf of America and Canada, 'Atlantis has been one of the anchors of our Gulf business for nearly two decades, and this expansion proves there is still more value to be generated.'
The project was delivered ahead of schedule and under budget, adding approximately 10,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) of gross peak annualized average production. This represents around 5,000 boe/d net to bp.
