BP Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) has decided to pause its Kanikonna project, a planned subsea natural gas development project located off the southeast coast of Trinidad and Tobago. This decision comes as bpTT is focusing on advancing the Manakin-Cocuina cross-border gas development project.

According to bpTT, the move to pause Kanikonna is part of an ongoing review of its portfolio as it seeks to maximize production while remaining within its 2026 budget. The company emphasized that its core development pipeline remains intact.

The Manakin-Cocuina field is a significant natural gas resource that straddles the maritime boundary between Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela, located approximately 68 miles off Trinidad's southeast coast. bpTT has confirmed that it will progress this project given its value for both Trinidad and Tobago and bp.
