BP Shares Surge Amid Brent Oil Rally
BP's shares surged ahead of its peers this week as Brent crude prices rose by 6.39%, marking its sixth consecutive day of gains. The increase indicates investors expect rising oil prices to accelerate BP's efforts to reduce debt, which has been a major focus for the company under CEO Meg O'Neill.
BP's valuation premium compared to its peers reflects its balance sheet. Rising oil prices boost its cash generation and asset disposals cut leverage, giving its equity greater sensitivity than competitors with stronger balance sheets.
The company reported $10.86 billion in operating cash flow for the second quarter, a 279.7% increase from last year's Q2. Net debt decreased by $3.06 billion since March, marking a 12.1% decline.
