bp Starts Atlantis Expansion Production in US Gulf of Mexico
bp has started production from its Atlantis expansion project in the US Gulf of Mexico. The addition of 10,000 boed (barrel of oil equivalent per day) of gross peak annualized production extends the life of one of bp's flagship deepwater developments.
The Atlantis field, located about 150 miles south of New Orleans, has been producing for nearly two decades. The expansion includes new subsea water injection wells and topside water injection pumps designed to maintain reservoir pressure and unlock additional oil production.
bp operates five production hubs in the US Gulf, with Atlantis being one of them. The company holds a 56% working interest in the field, while partner Woodside Energy owns the remaining 44%. The startup marks another milestone in bp's strategy to grow production from its deepwater Gulf portfolio.
