Braun Declares New Energy Emergency Amid Global Oil Disruptions
Indiana Governor Mike Braun has declared a new statewide energy emergency due to disruptions in oil supply. This move extends the gas tax holiday through September 5th, saving Hoosiers about 61 cents per gallon since spring.
The current energy emergency was set to expire on Thursday, but Braun issued a separate emergency declaration citing Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil facilities and Canadian wildfires affecting the Alberta Oil Sands Region.
According to Attorney General Todd Rokita, Indiana law does not prohibit the governor from declaring multiple emergencies for different reasons. The new energy emergency takes effect on Friday.
