Brazilian Grain Traders Reorganize for EUDR Soybean Exports
Grain traders reorganizing routes for EUDR soybean exports from Brazil in anticipation of EU rules set to take effect in January 2027. Abiove's president, André Nassar, says companies are adapting logistics routes and silo flows to comply with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).
The regulation restricts EU imports of products linked to deforestation, including soybeans, regardless of whether the clearing was considered legal in the country of origin.
Under EUDR rules, EU importers must prove compliance with environmental and labor laws in the country of origin and demonstrate product traceability. The European Union is the second-largest buyer of Brazil's soy complex products, accounting for 13% of export revenue in the first seven months of 2026.
Abiove members include major agricultural commodity traders such as ADM, Cargill, Bunge, and Amaggi, which are working to develop a workable logistics model that ensures EUDR compliance without disrupting export flows or eroding competitiveness.
