Brent Crude Jumps Above $87 as Geopolitics and Inventory Data Drive Prices Higher
Global oil prices surged on Wednesday as escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and a larger-than-expected decline in U.S. crude inventories fueled concerns over near-term supply disruptions.
Brent crude oil, the international benchmark for oil, rose above $87 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) advanced beyond $82 per barrel.
The latest rally followed fresh military action involving the United States and Saudi Arabia against Iran-backed groups in Iraq, coupled with reports that U.S. forces intercepted missiles launched toward American positions in the region.
Concerns over reduced shipping activity and uncertainty surrounding future navigation through the Strait of Hormuz have added a geopolitical premium to crude prices.
