Brent Crude Nears $92/Barrel as Strait of Hormuz Tensions Stoke Global Oil Supply Fears
Brent crude oil prices have risen to near $92 per barrel due to escalating tensions in the Middle East and uncertainty over the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump said there are no talks or conversations underway with Iran, contradicting earlier indications from his administration.
The statement has added to uncertainty over whether a diplomatic path could emerge to ease the conflict. The lack of visible diplomatic progress has become an important factor for oil traders because a prolonged conflict could increase risks to regional production, exports and shipping.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical route for international energy shipments, with any sustained disruption potentially creating tighter supply conditions and pushing prices higher. Preliminary data showed 73 transits between August 10 and 16, down from 91 in the previous week, highlighting the disruption to normal maritime traffic.
Recent attacks involving energy infrastructure and vessels have increased concerns about the security of Middle Eastern oil supplies. The possibility of additional attacks or disruptions has encouraged traders to factor a higher geopolitical risk premium into crude prices.
