Brent Crude Oil Prices Hover Below $70 Amid Surplus and Moderate Demand
Brent crude oil prices are currently trading in the mid-$60s to low-$70s per barrel, a level that reflects ample supply and moderate demand. The market's expectation of surplus is keeping a lid on prices, driven by record production from non-OPEC producers like the United States, Brazil, and Guyana.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) and OPEC have both projected that global oil supply will outpace demand through 2025. A significant and sustained supply disruption could drive Brent back to triple digits, for example a major conflict escalating in the Strait of Hormuz, which accounts for about 20% of global oil passes.
Rapid demand rebound, particularly if China's economy accelerates more than expected or if a colder-than-normal winter boosts heating fuel consumption, could also push prices higher. OPEC+ could decide to extend or deepen its production cuts beyond current agreements, tightening the market more than anticipated.
