Brent Crude Plunges to $86 as Iran and Oman Seek Strait of Hormuz Solution
The price of Brent crude has plummeted to $86.28 per barrel on Wednesday, August 26, after Iran and Oman resumed talks to restore navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
This decline marks a nearly 9.6% drop in Brent crude prices over the past seven days, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude also falling by $2.08, or 2.53%, to $80.29.
The renewed engagement between Iran and Oman has raised expectations that the strategic waterway could begin reopening, although it remains largely disrupted.
The two countries have held intermittent discussions for weeks on how to manage traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, with technical negotiations expected to continue on a permanent shipping corridor, future management arrangements, and mechanisms for maritime traffic and navigation services.
