Brent Crude Soars Above $82 as Iran Strikes Strait of Hormuz
The global oil market is on edge following reports of Iranian strikes on 'hostile targets' in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway that connects the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Sea. According to Bloomberg, the price of Brent crude surpassed $82 per barrel after the incident, while US WTI crude rose above $78.
Iran's semi-official Fars news agency reported that explosions occurred near Qeshm Island on August 6. The country has also threatened to restrict the passage of US vessels through the Strait of Hormuz and impose compensation fees for countries it considers hostile, as part of negotiations with Oman.
The situation remains volatile, with tensions in the Middle East escalating. Iran-backed Houthi rebels announced a large-scale attack on Yemeni government forces, and earlier reported an attack on a Saudi oil tanker in the Gulf of Aden.
