Stock markets in India declined early Tuesday as crude oil prices surged to USD 91.46 per barrel, fueled by escalating tensions between Iran and the US.

The Sensex fell 278.32 points to 77,450.64 while Nifty dipped 57.65 points to 24,230.45.

Reliance Industries, Sun Pharma, Maruti, and Axis Bank were among the gainers, but Bharti Airtel, Asian Paints, InterGlobe Aviation, Infosys, HCL Tech, and Tech Mahindra struggled.

V K Vijayakumar of Geojit Investments Ltd noted that two key factors will impact markets today: Brent crude's spike above USD 91 and a rise in the US 10-year bond yield to 4.73 per cent.
