Brent Crude Surges Past $92 as Middle East Tensions Escalate
Brent crude oil prices surged past $92 a barrel on Wednesday as tensions in the Middle East escalated, threatening global energy supplies.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) suspended financial and economic transactions with Iran after accusing Tehran of launching ballistic missiles at its territory. President Donald Trump stated that there were no ongoing talks to end the conflict.
Three China-linked supertankers turned back while navigating the waterway, and a vessel was reportedly hit by a projectile near the strait, adding to concerns about disruptions to energy supplies.
Despite these heightened risks, Gulf producers managed to move significant volumes of crude through alternative routes and discreet shipments. US refinery activity also provided support, with processing rates reaching their highest level since September 2019.
