Brent Crude Surpasses $100 as Global Shares Fall
Global shares were mostly lower on Wednesday as investors waited for key interest rate decisions and watched the war in Iran push oil prices above $100 a barrel.
The Brent crude price surpassed $100.39 per barrel, up 2.5% from the previous day's close, while US crude rose 1.9% to $94.85 per barrel.
European markets were hit hard, with France's CAC 40 declining 1.1% and Germany's DAX falling 0.9%. The FTSE 100 in Britain shed 0.5%, while the S&P 500 futures remained nearly unchanged.
The war between Iran and the US has caused concerns over global oil supplies, with Brent crude prices rising due to decreased production from Iraq, Libya, and Venezuela.
