Brent Crude Tops $100 Per Barrel Amid Escalating Middle East Tensions
Crude oil prices have surged to a four-month high after breaching the $100 per barrel mark, as tensions between Middle Eastern nations and Iran continue to escalate. Brent November futures briefly topped $100/bbl for the first time since late July.
The price increase is largely driven by supply concerns following the US-Iran spat overnight and further hostilities between Saudi Arabia and Houthis. Despite a lack of significant newsflow, the market remains sensitive to geopolitical developments. The Dutch TTF natural gas benchmark has also risen, firming by almost 4% intraday.
Precious metals have benefited from a weaker US dollar, with gold trading near its 100-day moving average (DMA) at $4,343/oz. However, base metals are mixed, with copper prices subdued following recent record highs on the London Metal Exchange.
