BSM Beats Wall Street with Strong Oil Performance
Black Stone Minerals (BSM) reported Q2 earnings that beat Wall Street expectations. Revenue topped $149 million, a 40.9% better than analyst estimates of $105.7 million. Adjusted EPS was $0.30, exceeding the predicted $0.25 by 20%. The company's operating margin stood at 73.9%, down from last year's 76.7%. Oil production was in line with the same quarter last year.
Vice President Taylor DeWalch attributed the results to strong oil asset performance and active management of the mineral and royalty portfolio, including refund initiatives. He emphasized that 'strong results to date this year from our oil assets' were a key contributor. Management also pointed to favorable pricing in the Permian and Bakken regions.
Analysts asked about drivers of the distribution increase and sustainability. DeWalch cited confidence in both oil volume strength and upcoming gas production ramps as supporting the decision. He also mentioned that marketing efforts for new operator agreements are progressing well, with a potential announcement imminent. The company's capital structure and preferred equity management were another topic of discussion.
