Buenos Aires Province Grain Exports Surge Through Bahia Blanca and Quequen

Buenos Aires province's grain exports drove agricultural export activity at public ports in Argentina during the first quarter of 2026, according to a recent report from the provincial Subsecretariat of Port Affairs.

The strongest performance came from the port management consortia of Bahía Blanca and Quequén, two key outlets for Argentina's grain trade on the Atlantic coast. The Port of Bahía Blanca alone handled 4.62 million tonnes in the first quarter, up 25.5% from 3.68 million tonnes in the same period of 2025.

Export operations represented 89% of Bahía Blanca's total cargo volume. Wheat led the agricultural cargo breakdown at the province's consortium-run ports, with 2.35 million tonnes handled in the first quarter, equivalent to 16% of total cargo.

The growth points to stronger demand for storage, inland transport, vessel loading and port services tied to the agricultural supply chain. The performance also reinforces the relevance of Bahía Blanca and Quequén as alternatives to the Paraná River port system, especially for grain flows linked to the south of Argentina's main agricultural belt.
