California Gas Prices Surge to $5.64 Per Gallon Amid Crude Oil Price Hike
California's gas prices continue to rise, with the state average increasing by 7 cents from last week to $5.64 per gallon. The national average remained steady at $4.09, but Californians are still facing higher prices compared to other parts of the country.
The high prices are largely driven by crude oil prices, which have been hovering around $80 per barrel due to lingering instability in the Strait of Hormuz. Aldo Vazquez, spokesperson for AAA Mountain West Group, noted that while August may bring some relief at the pump as road trips wind down and fall routines get underway, elevated crude oil prices could prevent a seasonal shift from starting just yet.
The current fuel prices around California are as follows: San Francisco ($5.83), Oakland ($5.65), San Jose ($5.63), Sacramento ($5.59), Fresno ($5.56), Stockton ($5.47), and Modesto ($5.47).
