Campbell Bay Residents Endure Prolonged Cooking Gas Crisis
Campbell Bay, a remote area in the Andaman Islands, is facing a severe shortage of essential commodities. The residents have been without regular LPG cylinder supplies for nearly five months, with the last delivery made around March-April. Mrs. Rameshwari Padhan, a resident of Campbell Bay, explained that the prolonged LPG crisis has forced many families to rely on firewood for cooking.
The shortage is not limited to cooking gas, as rice and wheat are also in short supply at the CCS and Fair Price Shop outlets. Despite efforts by local PRI representatives to raise awareness about the issue, the supply situation remains a major concern for the residents of Campbell Bay.
A recent consignment of 250 LPG cylinders sent through a Defence vessel did not reach the general civilian population sufficiently. It is reported that another consignment of around 240-250 LPG cylinders was loaded on a cargo ship, but the quantity is far below the present requirement of approximately 3,000 cylinders.
