Canada Imposes Sanctions on Five Iranians Over Strait of Hormuz Navigation
Canada has imposed sanctions on five Iranian officials and figures in response to their alleged role in obstructing navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The move targets individuals who Ottawa claims have threatened international security.
The sanctioned individuals include Ali Abdollahi, commander of Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters; Ebrahim Zolfaghari, its spokesperson; lawmaker Ebrahim Azizi, who heads parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee; Iranian Navy Commander Shahram Irani; and Hamid Hosseini, spokesperson for the Iranian Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Products Exporters Union.
The sanctions freeze any assets held by these individuals in Canada, bar Canadians from dealing with them, and render them inadmissible to the country. This brings Canada's Iran sanctions list to 232 individuals and 260 entities.
