Canada Unity Could Boost Alberta Oil Sands GDP by $110 Billion
New modeling suggests that Alberta's oil sands GDP could increase by an additional $110 billion over the next decade, representing a 25% boost, if the province remains within Canada.
This projection is based on an assumption of increased oil production to around 7.5 million barrels per day (mb/d) by 2035, aligning with the Alberta government's roadmap target.
According to Lennie Kaplan, a former senior manager in the Fiscal and Economic Policy Division of Alberta's Ministry of Treasury Board and Finance, investments in projects like the West Coast Oil Pipeline and carbon capture and storage (CCS) initiatives could be jeopardized by Alberta independence.
