Canada's Grain Stockpiles Soar to Multi-Year Highs
Canada's wheat, canola, and pulse stocks have seen significant increases at the end of the 2025-26 marketing year. Statistics Canada reported that total wheat stocks reached 6.6 million tonnes, a 57% increase from the same time last year.
This is the highest level since the 2017-18 marketing year. Durum wheat ending stocks were particularly notable, increasing by 115% to 1.1 million tonnes.
Canola carryout also saw a substantial rise, up 19% from the previous year to 1.9 million tonnes. However, canola exports declined due to reduced demand during the first half of the year when Chinese tariffs were in place.
Pulse crops such as peas and lentils set new records for ending stocks, with pea carryout increasing by 142% and lentil carryout rising by 129%. Exports of these crops also saw a boost due to larger production in the 2025 growing season.
