Canada's Massive Methane Gas Export Project Slammed by Environmentalists

A massive methane gas export project is set to be built in Quebec, Canada, despite growing concerns over the country's contribution to climate change. The project will increase global supply by almost 50% by 2030 and contribute significantly to greenhouse gas emissions.

Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is a major component of the export project, which is mostly made up of methane - a potent greenhouse gas with effects exceeding 100 times that of carbon dioxide. Methane has contributed two-thirds as much warming as CO2 since the Industrial Revolution.

Environmental Defence, a leading Canadian environmental advocacy organization, has expressed its opposition to the project, citing the devastating impact it will have on Canadians and the environment. The group warns that the global LNG market is facing a turning point, with Europe seeking energy security through renewable energy rather than relying on expensive LNG infrastructure.
